Commentary on optional rules

Character Law (CL) has a number of optional rules, many of which can be administered several different ways.  The items below spell out how the Anderson Campaign elected to handle these rules.

Sec 13.11, Similar Weapons.  Campaign allows the use of weapons at half the skill rank of a "similar" trained-in weapon.  See Sec 14.15.

Sec 13.12, Similar Riding is also used, as 13.11.

Sec 13.14, Two Weapons in Melee.  Rule is used, except all PC's were assumed not ambidextrous.

Sec 13.21, Stat Bonuses from Multiple Stats.  Relevant stats are averaged, and then the bonus corresponding to that average is used.  If racial bonuses apply, the racial bonuses for the relevant stats are themselves averaged, and then added to the bonus corresponding to the stat average (see Sec 14.13).  Happily, this process is made transparent to the player through the graces of the Excel character sheet.

Sec 13.22, Stat Bonuses for Spell Gain Rolls.  Rule is used, but the second paragraph is further modified such that when attempting to gain a second spell list in one level, it is sufficient to drive the chance of obtaining the first list (research ranks at 5% per plus stat bonus) to 100%.

Sec 13.24, Extra Stat Gain Rolls.  Rule is allowed, but "extra" gain rolls do not qualify for the house rule which increases potentials on rolls of 96-100.

Sec 13.31, Martial Artists.  Campaign allows "weapon kata" picks and usage as described.

Sec 14.14, Secondary Skills.  Rule is used, see particulars on secondary skill page.

Sec 14.22, Level Bonuses.  Rule (and table 15.72) is used, plus a smattering of additional level bonuses for secondary skills as described on the miscellanous rule page.

Sec 14.23, Background Options.  Disallowed in favor of extraordinary stat house rules.

Sec 14.24, Experience Point Suggestions.  These suggestions were all incorporated.
